Mothers and fathers

Mothers

got that need to look after things,

Got that certain way

of taking you under her wings.

Fathers

got that certain kind of ‘protective streak',

protecting their offspring

and providing them a place to sleep.

Mothers and fathers,

sometimes doing what is wrong,

sometimes doing what’s right,

but somehow always falling

into a great parental archetype.

I suppose I’ll be a dad one day

and I wonder then if I’ll

follow the great 'archetypal way. '
